Plaza Meeting Procedure

Type names into the blanks as volunteers speak up. They stay saved on this device until you change them.

Before the meeting

  1. Close any browser tabs and windows you don't need.
  2. Open the Plaza Group Zoom meeting. It opens in a new tab.
  3. Once you're in, open the Participants panel and choose Claim Host at the bottom in the middle. Enter the host key and confirm. This works only if no one else is host, and you need the Zoom app rather than a web browser.
  4. Turn on the Waiting Room: tap the Security shield in the Zoom toolbar and switch on Waiting Room. From now on, everyone who joins waits until you let them in.
  5. Open the Participants panel and the Chat panel from the Zoom toolbar and keep both open during the meeting. You'll use Participants to admit people and ask everyone to unmute, and Chat for questions and the donation address.
  6. Before you share your screen, close any tabs that show anything unrelated or sensitive.

Admitting people

Opening the meeting

Welcome to the open meeting of the Plaza Group of Alcoholics Anonymous. We extend a warm welcome to any visitors or anyone here for the first time. If you are having trouble with alcohol, you are in the right place.

In keeping with our singleness of purpose and our third tradition which states the only requirement for AA membership is a desire to stop drinking we ask that all who participate confine their discussion to their problems with alcohol.

Please join me in the serenity prayer: God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

We have asked a few volunteers to help with the readings. (Share your screen now and open the Readings page.)

Every A.A. group ought to be fully self-supporting, declining outside contributions. Please send any donations to the venmo address in chat.

Service is essential. Please message me for service opportunities with Plaza Group. We need more secretaries, which is what I'm doing right now.

Plaza Group is online on Wednesday nights at 8pm, which is this meeting, and in person on Sunday nights at 7pm at the Vine in Midwood in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Closing

I am responsible when anyone, anywhere reaches out for help. I want the hand of AA always to be there, and for that I am responsible.

We will close the meeting with a moment of silence, followed by the Lord's Prayer or a prayer of your choice in silence.

I'd like to invite everybody to unmute and join us. We can't say it at exactly the same time online, but we can do it together anyway. (Participants panel, More, Ask All to Unmute.)

Last step: thank the speaker again and invite them to lead us out.

Use this at the end of the night to get ready for the next meeting.
